Phil Parkinson has stated that he anticipates departures in January, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be reducing the Wrexham team.
Consequently, what happened?
Although Wrexham has come a long way—winning the National League in 2022–2023 and now sitting third in League Two—President Parkinson is still looking for more excellence and is prepared to let go of unwanted players during the current winter transfer window. He also takes care to abide by the EFL’s squad size regulations, which prohibit teams from fielding more than 22 players, with the exception of goalkeepers and U-21 football players.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
“There has been some interest in players who have been out of the picture so we are looking at a few of those situations,” Parkinson told reporters. We are in talks with one or two teams about a few players who have been on the fringes a little bit and are drawing some interest. Since the 22-man squad rule requires it, I assume some players will be departing the team.”
THE LARGER IMAGE
Rebuilding the team will be difficult for Parkinson given that players like Billy Waters, Callum McFadzean, and Bryce Hosannah were left off of the September roster. But now that they are eligible, the team management could have to release a few players to make way for the recruits.
But Parkinson refrained from discussing any possible new hires, saying only, “We are just reviewing where we are with our injured players and seeing when they are coming back but obviously we are looking at options.”
Next What?
With four wins in their previous five games, Wrexham is enjoying a fantastic run of success in League Two. They resume to league action on Saturday at the Stok Cae Ras against AFC Wimbledon after defeating Shrewsbury in the FA Cup and easily defeating Barrow 4-1.
