Rangers want to sign Dinamo Zagreb star Marko Bulat in January with recruitment chief Nils Koppen making checks on his availability, report Football Scotland.
Writing on their website (12 January), the news outlet report that the Ibrox club are in the market for a new midfielder this month and the Croatian was among a number of options being looked at.
Zagreb are likely to ask for around £5m for the 22-year-old however which means Rangers are likely to move on to other targets.
“Rangers have checked on the conditions of Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marko Bulat,” they wrote.
“Football Scotland understands the Gers recruitment team, headed up by chief Nils Koppen, have checked on Bulat’s situation at the HNL club as they weigh up the rest of their January plans.
“It’s believed his asking price would be in the region of around £5million, which would likely shift Gers onto their next player on the list.
“The Croatian, who has been capped at every international level up to the under-21s, is one of a number of January options who have been monitored by the club.”
Talent
Rangers are always shopping in a different market to the rest of Europe’s elite because of the standard of the domestic league and the club’s financial situation.
So transfers for gems like Bulat are essential for when it comes to improving the club’s situation and squad when operating on a budget.
Bulat has previously been described as “excellent” by analyst Sergei Aleksandrovich, and would provide a fantastic solution to the problem Rangers always have whenever Nicolas Raskin is unavailable.
He dictates the tempo of the game, has an eye for goal and isn’t afraid to get stuck into a tackle when that is necessary and that all-action style is surely what Philippe Clement will want to add to his squad.
It won’t be easy to do considering the asking price, but if there is any movement on that then this will be a deal for fans to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
