SCOTT BUTLER hopes to top a memorable week by helping Nantwich Town to more FA Trophy success – even if his own road to Wembley is set to come to an end.
“They’ve extended my loan for this week so I’m eligible to play at Solihull,” said Butler, who has already helped Paul Carden’s side to a penalty shoot-out win at Chester and a thrilling 3-2 home win over York City last month.
“It’s a free hit for us but we know we can cause an upset as we have in the last three rounds,” he added.
Butler, 20, heads to Solihull still buzzing after being in the away end in Shrewsbury on Sunday where he cheered the Reds on to a famous FA Cup third round victory at The Croud Meadow.
“I was in the away end and it was nice to get to an away game,” added Butler, who returned to Wrexham last year after a spell at Swansea City.
“I haven’t been to watch a game for ages because I’m playing now but it was a great win and the best atmosphere I’ve seen for a while.”
Butler, who hails from Ruabon, has impressed during his stint across the Cheshire border where another ex-Wrexham youngster, Kai Evans, is now plying his trade.
Darren Moss, the Wrexham-born former Wales international, who is now first team coach at Nantwich, has praised Butler’s displays.
“He’s been outstanding for us,” said Moss. “He has a brilliant attitude and he could definitely play at a higher level.
“The good thing about him is that he wants to learn and I’m trying to give him as much advice as I can.”
Butler has enjoyed his time at Nantwich, adding: “The games come thick and fast and it’s a very competitive league and all you want to do as a footballer is play games.
“I’ve really enjoyed my spell here. Mossy and Paul Carden have been very supportive and it’s worked out well as I train with Nantwich on Tuesdays and Thursdays and with Wrexham on Mondays and Fridays.”
What the future holds for Butler for the rest of the season remains to be seen but Reds boss Phil Parkinson rates the defender and has been pleased with his progress.
“I’ve been really pleased for Scott,” said Parkinson. “He needs to play in men’s football and the move to Nantwich has given him the opportunity to do that.
“I’ve watched footage of his games and he’s done well there.”
