The reason why Wrexham hasn’t added any new players in the January transfer window has been provided by manager Phil Parkinson.

Consequently, what happened?
The 56-year-old gave an explanation for why, despite the eagerness of their Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, to spend money, the League Two team has not added to its roster during the current January transfer window. With a game remaining, the team is now two points behind leaders Stockport County in League Two and is looking to add players.

PHIL PARKINSON’S QUOTES
The Wrexham manager stated, “There are a lot of enquiries going on but, equally, we have some good players ready to make a big contribution,” in an interview with The Athletic. We will try to get a player if we believe he or she can help us. We search nonstop. Since signing players is a competitive business, it can sometimes resemble a game of poker.

“I’m always hearing that football doesn’t pay well. However, every time we approach a player to sign, they tell us they don’t need the money and hence don’t need to sell. It can be challenging to remove players.”

In the summer, the Red Dragons adopted a similar wait-and-see strategy. On the day of the deadline, the team acquired midfielder George Evans from Millwall and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on loan from Arsenal. In the 16 league games he has played thus far, Okonkwo has kept seven clean sheets, and Evans has been a rock in defensive midfield. Both signings have shown to be effective.

FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
The Welsh team, who are now leading the league by two points and riding a three-match winning streak, will next play a League Two encounter on January 20 against rivals Newport County.
