The transfer of former Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo to Sheffield Wednesday could help Wrexham’s striker purs

WHAT HAPPENED?

The loan move of former Chelsea youth player Ike Ugbo from French club Troyes to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday could prove to be beneficial to Wrexham, who are eyeing a move for the Owls’ veteran forward Lee Gregory, according to Football League World.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Red Dragons are yet to make a new signing in the ongoing January transfer window despite Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s willingness to spend money. The club have been linked with a move for Gregory since December, although the Championship side was not ready to let him leave. But with Ugbo’s arrival at the club, Gregory could finally move out and join the Welsh side.

The 35-year-old forward has seen his game time reduced at Sheffield Wednesday in the current season as he has only appeared in 13 Championship games thus far. He has spent just one minute on the pitch since October 25 and has scored once in the league.

Phil Parkinson’s side, who are on a three-match winning streak and two points behind league leaders Stockport, will take on rivals Newport County next on January 20 in a League Two clash.
