After Alabama hired Kalen DeBoer and Nick Saban retired, the Georgia Bulldogs have taken two pieces away from Tuscaloosa. Jake Pope, a safety transfer from the Tide and KJ Bolden’s teammate at Buford, was acquired by them yesterday.
They signed Travaris Robinson on Saturday to take Will Muschamp’s place as their co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. However, Muschamp will stay in Athens because he is returning to his original position as an off-field defensive analyst, which he began when he joined the team in 2021. What does this mean for the secondary room in Georgia, and how will it appear in 2024?
As previously stated, Robinson will coach safeties, while Muschamp will become an analyst. However, the Bulldogs have added another secondary hiring with the departure of Fran Brown in the form of USC’s Donte Williams, who will coach the cornerbacks.
Brown excelled at recruiting, thus the Bulldogs benefited from all three of these staff changes. There have been 29 promises from Kirby Smart, Muschamp, Robinson, and Willaims combined. Robinson is now the centre of attention, even though Williams helped bring a valuable player from USC’s squad to Georgia for the upcoming campaign.
One of Robinson’s top recruits, Caleb Downs, hasn’t made an official comment, but there’s a lot of chatter about him potentially leaving Alabama to transfer. The Bulldogs will be the first team to be considered as a possible landing point if it is confirmed that Downs is departing the Tide.
However, with Smart and his staff out on the recruiting road yesterday and hosting a number of prospects for a visit this weekend, Georgia’s secondary room is in excellent hands both on and off the pitch.
