PHIL PARKINSON is happy to play a waiting game if it means landing the targets top of his shopping list during the January transfer window list.

Eager to strengthen the squad in the quest for a second successive promotion, Parkinson is yet to complete any new signings this month but the Reds’ boss has identified players he would like to recruit and admits it might take time to bring in his first choice targets.

“The summer dragged on and we had the chance to sign other players in that position to take up the budget we wanted to spend on Elliot.

“We kept saying we want to give that opportunity to get the best one in out target list and that one proved the same as George Evans; the top end of what we wanted and it is a bit of a game of poker.

“It is competitive business when you are trying to sign players.

“There is always talk out there that everybody has got no money but when we go and try and sign players, everyone says ‘we don’t need any money, we don’t need to sell anybody’.

“It is hard to wrestle players away but we have done it really well in the past with the players we have brought into the club and I think all the supporters can see the calibre of the squad we are developing.”
