We’re halfway through the January transfer window and Coventry City have let one player go and signed a new one so far, with fans desperate to learn if there will be any more business done before the 11pm deadline on February 1.
Yasin Ayari was the first player to move, being recalled from his season-long loan with the Sky Blues by his parent club Brighton in the first week of the window and redirected out to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers for the season half of the campaign. Mark Robins then added Victor Torp last week, with the club splashing out £2.1million on the Danish midfielder, who had been catching the eye with impressive form in the Norwegian top flight.
Robins has been at pains to point out that Torp is not a replacement for Gustavo Hamer in terms of style, and fans await to see what the 24-year-old who can play in a number of central midfield roles will bring to the side once he’s got his fitness back up to speed following five weeks out for the Scandinavian winter break.
Other questions remain, namely will any of City’s senior players be on the move this month and will Doug King put his hand in his pocket, or at least raid the club coffers, again with a big signing to help the club push for promotion. The Sky Blues have been in outstanding form in recent weeks, lifting themselves up from 20th place on 19 points just a few short weeks ago to sixth in the table on 40. They’re in a great position to push for the play-offs with 19 league games to go and the hope of a decent cup run to boot.
The other big talking point, of course, has been the future of star man Callum O’Hare and his contract situation. Join Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner this lunchtime for out weekly Q&A. Get your questions in below in the comments section.
