Under Daniel Farke, Leeds United is undoubtedly on the rise; at the moment, the Whites are ranked fourth in the Championship.

However, in anticipation of a crucial few months for the team as they attempt to return to the big time, the manager might wish to bolster his roster.

And that reinforcement might come right at the back in the form of a new goalkeeper. Leeds is reportedly in the running to sign Bartlomej Dragowski of Spezia, according to a Tuesday, January 16, Tuttomercatoweb article.

But the article did state that in order for the Whites to get the Spezia guy, they had to formally sell Illan Meslier, who is currently ranked top.

However, it appears that a transfer for Dragowski is now improbable even if Meslier were to leave Elland Road. On Wednesday, January 17, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Spezia goalkeeper is close to joining Panathinaikos, with talks still ongoing between the two teams.

If Leeds and Farke had been sincere about getting Dragowski to Elland Road this month, then it is undoubtedly a setback.

Farke is eager to concentrate on continuing to score goals, so the man in the dugout won’t be wanting too many January transfer hiccups.

Having a top goalkeeper is key to that, but the German can at least relax when it comes to the other end of the pitch, with his attackers in fine form.

Up next for Farke and his men is a test with Preston North End, with Elland Road hosting that Championship clash on Sunday (21 January).
