In their hunt for a new defender, Leeds United has been linked to Everton’s Ben Godfrey this month. The competition is heating up to sign the versatile player before the deadline.

The 26-year-old Godfrey has been warming the bench for Everton this season as Jarrad Branthwaite and the seasoned James Tarkowski have been preferred by Sean Dyche. He has only played in three games.

He may now be open for a trade this month as a result of that. Sheffield United under Chris Wilder and Leeds are reportedly among the interested clubs, according to a report from the Italian website CalcioMercato.

Despite his bulk, the defender has experience playing on both sides of the back line and Atalanta had come close to landing him. Although a transfer fell through, AC Milan is still thinking about him.

It’s an intriguing one considering that Godfrey only made 80 appearances for the Toffees after joining the team for a whopping £25 million in 2020 from Norwich. His playing time has been restricted the past few years due to injuries.

Leeds’s defense needs options. Charlie Cresswell was overlooked on Sunday once more, and you would think he would be riding his bike before the window closes. Reliable options on the sides are also lacking for us.

Godfrey is a highly valuable addition because he can play on the left or right. He’s ideal for the bench even if he doesn’t start for us, which he surely should if he can give it his all.

We’ll have to wait and see if Godfrey would be enticed to return to the Championship, but the opportunity to work with Daniel Farke again, who managed him at Forest, would be intriguing.
