We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Dan Bardell expects Giovanni Reyna to sign for Nottingham Forest despite being linked with a move to Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Wednesday (24 January) that Forest have scheduled a fresh round of talks with Borussia Dortmund to secure a loan deal for the American international this month.
He added that the discussions are surrounding the loan fee and how much of his salary will be covered by the Premier League side, with the 21-year-old attacker already accepting the move to the City Ground.
Despite FootballTransfers reporting on 17 January that Villa have enquired about Reyna, Bardell believes the priority for the club is to secure a deal for Middlesbrough winger Morgan Rogers after already seeing bids turned down for him this month.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “They have said that he’s going to Forest. He’s pretty close to signing on for Forest.
“Villa’s priority seems to be Rogers as the only concrete attacking player that they are after at the moment.
“So Reyna will go to Forest I would have thought, which is a surprise in itself given that they’re potentially going to get docked points and they’re under investigation.
“They’ve kind of just stuck two fingers up and said ‘well, we’ll just carry on doing what we want anyway’.”
