Although Phil Parkinson expressed optimism about bolstering his team before the January transfer window ends, he stressed the need for Wrexham to cling onto their valuable assets.

With the Reds presently sitting in second place in League Two, only two points behind leaders Stockport County, Parkinson has made no secret of the fact that he would like to bring in new players to help the promotion push.

However, he also wants to make sure that players aren’t lured away from The Racecourse, which is why midfielder Elliot Lee and striker Paul Mullin signed contract extensions that will last until the end of the 2026–2027 campaign on New Year’s Day.

Parkinson’s announcement this week that Arthur Okonkwo, who is on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, will undoubtedly stay with the Reds when the recall deadline has passed brought even more positive news.

“In the transfer window, everybody looks at who we are going to bring in and what signings we are going to make,” stated the manager of the Reds.

However, we have kept Arthur, while Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee have signed new deals.

For now, that window is excellent for us.

“If we do make an addition or two, that will be a bonus but sometimes in the window it is make sure you keep what you have got.”

Although Okonkwo, who has made 20 appearances across all competitions and been in outstanding form, may have drawn interest from other teams, the Reds’ manager expressed his happiness that Okonkwo will continue to grow with Wrexham.

Parkinson said, getting ready for Monday’s FA Cup fourth-round match at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers. “I speak to the loans manager and Arsenal have been brilliant with us,” Parkinson said.

“The goalkeeping coach down there is always in contact with Aidan Davison; they are interested in Arthur’s development and are aware of our good care for him.

Arthur has a fantastic stage to perform on.

“They recognize that everything at Wrexham is expected of them, including playing in front of enthusiastic crowds every week.
