As the deadline for transfers draws near, on February 1st, Leeds United has not added any players to their roster. The Whites are now scheduled for the Championship play-offs and are vying for instant promotion back to the top division. Despite playing one extra game, they are only two points outside of the automatic promotion spots.

Mateusz Musialowski, a talented player for Liverpool’s under-21 team, is one of the guys they’ve targeted this month, and there has been a notable progress as of late. Leeds contacted the Reds to express interest in a deal for the Pole, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, after conducting some preliminary investigations.

Although “several” other teams were rumored to be in the running for Musialowski, Daniel Farke wants “attacking reinforcements” before the window closes. However, Leeds seem to have taken the lead by steal.

Leeds is gaining ground on Musialowski following their Friday breakthrough.
Leeds is allegedly “edging closer” to completing a deal for Musialowski, according to Football Insider. Even though the 21-year-old is much sought after, West Yorkshire officials made significant progress on Friday and are now moving closer to a deal that should help them win the race.

Musialowski can play across the front line, thus Farke initially wants him to be a backup attacker. Eventually, though, he will undoubtedly want to establish himself in the starting lineup. Although he hasn’t yet played for a competitive first team, this is his opportunity to start his career.

Leeds needs to sign a full-back contract after obtaining Musialowski.
If a deal for Musialowski is really reached at this point, Leeds’ transfer window may come to a lively close. While Archie Gray has played the second-most minutes of any player in the squad, Farke’s top priority should be to sign a replacement right back because they currently run the risk of being shorthanded following the early cancellation of Djed Spence’s loan and the temporary transfer of Luke Ayling to Middlesbrough. The team has been considering a number of prospects, such as Ben Johnson of West Ham, Connor Roberts of Burnley, and Ben Davies of Tottenham.

After Charlie Cresswell was cut from the team due to concerns about his attitude, there was a chance that some action would also take place in the center of defense. Farke was supposed to look for another center-half if he went so that he would have four choices in that position. However, he stated that the “door is back open” for Cresswell to play after further discussions in recent days during his news conference before of Leeds’ FA Cup match against Plymouth on Saturday.

He informed his management that “he definitely wants to stay” during those talks, which obviously lessens the likelihood of making a move for a target like Liverpool’s Nat Phillips—though nothing is ever completely ruled out in the frenzied final stretch of a transfer window.
