Even though Wrexham has had a fantastic return to the EFL, sitting in the automatic promotion spots barely after the midway point, they still want to add players to their roster.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the owners of Wrexham, are expected to “release funds” for a significant January transfer, as they are still being connected to acquiring a new striker.

Jack Marriott of Fleetwood Town, who has eight goals in League One this season in just 19 games, is the most recent name to be rumored to be joining the team. As they are currently positioned last in League One and appear to be headed for relegation, Fleetwood probably cannot afford to lose their leading goal scorer without securing a replacement.

Nevertheless, it seems that Wrexham is prepared to shell out a lot of money to sign Marriott, who has scored 60 goals in League One and the Championship in the last eight seasons.

In 27 League Two games, Wrexham has already scored 54 goals, which is the fourth-highest total this season. Paul Mullin and Eliot Lee are two of the league’s top scorers.

In September, Reynolds and McElhenney were very close to signing Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, but the deal fell through because they could not submit the required documentation in time.

Even though Steven Fletcher, who has five goals in 14 games, was signed by the Red Dragons as a free agent, they are still seeking to add a striker.

The leading scorers in League One, Aaron Collins, Stephen Humphrys, and Jonson Clarke Harris, have all drawn attention during the January transfer window. Wrexham, though, is reportedly focusing on Marriott. Several League One teams are interested in signing the former Peterborough and Derby County forward, who is eager to leave Fleetwood.

Marriott has been linked to both Oxford United and Stevenage, with the latter having rejected a summer transfer deal of about £500,000. Marriott is said to be available for the right price, but only a year into his two-and-a-half year contract, Fleetwood paid Peterborough over £250,000 to sign him a year ago.

According to a number of sources, Fleetwood was trying to get rid of the seasoned striker because of his competitive pay, which is among the highest in League One.

Charlie Adam now has more alternatives thanks to the arrival of Ronan Coughlan from Waterford last month. However, Fleetwood, who are now bottom of League One, could use a siege mindset across the board.

Although Marriott hasn’t performed poorly this season, he has been benched for two of Fleetwood’s last three games, which raises the possibility that he will soon leave the team.
