During the winter transfer window, Rangers are “close” to adding Fluminense left-back Jefte to Philippe Clement’s team at Ibrox.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who exclusively discloses to GIVEMESPORT that a switch to the Gers is “close,” Rangers target Jefte “has already said yes” to a move to Ibrox.
Despite having a quiet winter transfer window in 2024, Phillipe Clement’s team may increase their activity in the last few days of the market as they want to fight for the Scottish Premiership title and advance to the further stages of the Europa League.
Rangers continues to lag behind in the fight for the premier league crown, but their recent performance has put them back in the mix. Jefte, who is now on loan at APOEL Nicosia from Fluminense, a Brazilian powerhouse, is eager to move to Ibrox and is likely to leave Cyprus in the near future.
Rangers’ extended window following a calm winter market, interest in Jefte
As the market’s first February deadline draws near in the coming days, Rangers supporters haven’t had a busy 2024 winter transfer window to celebrate. To kick off the new year, the Gers announced the loan signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva, who will stay with the team through the end of the 2023–24 campaign. The arrival of the Portugal U21 international might take Sam Lammers’ place, who has temporarily left for FC Utrecht.
Mohamed Diomande, a midfielder for FC Nordsjaelland, has also signed with Rangers, initially on loan with a buyout option in the summer. The Ivory Coast U23 international, who has participated in over 100 games for the Danish team, including fixtures in European competition, will cost the Gers €5 million (£4.3 million).
Rangers may add at least one more new player in the coming days after adding two this winter. A deal to sign left-back Jefte, who is currently on loan from Fluminense, is reportedly near, after the player was left out of APOEL’s squad on January 26.
According to reports from the Mediterranean, the left-back, who is 20 years old, might only get £400,000 in a transfer. Rangers would consider it a coup, since the defender’s presence might allow them to release either Borna Barisic or Ridvan Yilmaz. The former, who has an expiring contract this summer, may soon leave Ibrox.
Yilmaz, meantime, may seek a new opportunity elsewhere as he has found opportunities difficult since joining Rangers in the summer of 2022. Consequently, Jefte’s signing might be essential to starting a chain reaction at Ibrox elsewhere in the market.
Ranger Fabrizio Romano is waiting for the “green light” to sign Jefte
Romano claims that Jefte’s contract with the Rangers is almost complete, since the player has expressed his desire to relocate to Ibrox. The Italian journalist said that all that needs to happen is for APOEL to approve the transfer. Requesting an update on the relocation, Romano said
