Ben Herbert, the longstanding strength and conditioning coach for the Michigan Wolverines, has reportedly accepted a similar position on Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL, according to numerous sources on Monday morning.

Furthermore, Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider has revealed that he anticipates Justin Tress, assistant strength and conditioning coach, to succeed Herbert.

This information was released barely two days after Sherrone Moore, the new head coach of Michigan, expressed his “great encouragement” that Herbert would be allowed to stay in Ann Arbor.

We’ll see what happens with the personnel one day at a time, you know. Though undoubtedly thrilled,” Moore remarked.

Herbert joined the University of Michigan football team in 2018. He was given more responsibility this past season as Harbaugh promoted him to associate head coach of the team. He had been Arkansas’s strength and conditioning coach for five years before that.

Moore and the Wolverines are grieving greatly over this loss. Herbert’s praise from numerous coaches and players over the years, including Harbaugh, who once referred to him as the “X-factor of our entire program,” makes this a major blow to Michigan’s coaching staff.

The things Moore has done for the program and the line of scrimmage on both sides for us are truly untouchable, as Moore stated in 2023. “He’s the nation’s top strength coach. It’s

It’s noteworthy to note that NFL strength and conditioning coaches earn significantly less money than their college counterparts. Just last year, Herbert agreed to a five-year, $5 million contract with Michigan. In Ann Arbor, the majority of NFL strength and conditioning coaches earn around half of Herbert’s pay.

Though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, rumors have it that Jesse Minter will also be joining Harbaugh’s team in Los Angeles. Moore will also need to locate a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in addition to replacing Chris Partridge as the linebackers coach.

Moore stated during his inaugural news conference that he hopes to finish everything as soon as possible, but there is still a lot of work to be done. In the next few weeks, we’ll find out exactly how quickly he can finish all of this.
