During his tenure at Ibrox, former Rangers manager Michael Beale didn’t exactly make many mistakes; the boss had many special moments in the dugout.
However, he found it difficult in one area: recruitment, which sadly has little margin for mistake in Glasgow.
It’s January already, and the club brought in nine new faces last summer, many of whom failed to make an impression in blue.
However, Jack Butland has stood out. After retiring, the goalkeeper quickly took over as famed shot-stopper Allan McGregor’s replacement.
Butland made an impression under Beale, and he has continued to do so under Philippe Clement, to the point where the Premier League is now again showing interest in him.
Nottingham Forest is reportedly interested in the 30-year-old, who has previously played in the competition for teams like Stoke City and Crystal Palace (30 January).
The article further stated that the team has not entertained any offers for their number one player and that the Gers had issued a hands-off warning.
That’s the position taken by the Ibrox authorities, and Clement has to stick to it until the January transfer market closes.
Given Nottingham Forest’s financial resources, a sizable bid might come in before the deadline, but the Rangers manager must be steadfast in his support of his goalie.
In addition to being one of his best players, Butland’s departure would be detrimental because the team would have little time to locate a successor.
Although Robby McCrorie, Clement’s deputy, isn’t quite up to Butland’s caliber, he’s still not the worst choice.
