Ahead of the trade deadline on February 8th, fans are expected to hear the most about the Los Angeles Lakers during the upcoming week. That’s understandable given the squad’s 24–25 record, the fact that multiple players are tied to the team, and the obvious indicators that a change of some kind is probably in order.
However, how significant will that alteration really be? ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski had some insightful commentary on the Lakers’ trade prospects leading up to the deadline, saying that the team, players, and fans should “temper their expectations.” He also made an unexpected suggestion for what he thought would be the best move for the Lakers.
The Lakers have been playing, but they are a team that, like many others, is working to get better without many true game-changers on the market.” According to Wojnarowski on SportsCenter.
I believe that Laker supporters, players, and the organization should probably lower their expectations for this trade deadline. Waiting might be their best option.”
At this point, the pitch will be difficult to sell to almost any Lakers fan.
Zach LaVine, Dejounte Murray, Bruce Brown, a number of Brooklyn Nets players, and other players have all been connected to the team. The Lakers can trade up to three first-round picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, whereas they can only deal one at this time. This is the main reason the insider thinks the Lakers should wait.
