Nottingham Forest right-back During the winter transfer window, Serge Aurier will sign a permanent contract to join Galatasaray.

Nottingham Forest right-back Permanent signing Serge Aurier to Galatasaray is scheduled, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the news.

During the 2024 winter transfer window, Nuno Espirito Santo has already approved a number of Tricky Trees team exits as the East Midlands team looks to adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

In order to assemble a team that can compete in the Premier League at the end of the 2023–2024 season, Forest may try to acquire some players on Deadline Day. Aurier will not be leaving The City Ground on loan; Romano has confirmed that Aurier will be leaving on a permanent basis.

The Nottingham Forest career of Aurier
After Aurier, 31, left Villarreal at the end of his contract in the previous season, Forest announced his signing in September 2022. The Ivory Coast international was joining a team that aimed to maintain its position in the top division, but he had already played Premier League football with Tottenham Hotspur.

Aurier played for The Tricky Trees in 28 games during the 2022–2023 season under former Forest manager Steve Cooper. He scored one goal as the two-time European Cup champions ensured their place in the Premier League. Despite being rated “fantastic” by Chris Wood, a striker for Forest, the full-back has not played much this season and may have to go as the team is keen to cut costs.

The challenges Forest faces with Financial Fair Play
Everton and Nottingham Forest were accused of breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations in January. A maximum of more than £105 million can be lost by top-tier teams over the course of three seasons.

But Forest could only lose £61 million since they played in the Championship for two of those three seasons. While the clubs determine their next course of action, the Premier League asserts that the East Midlands powerhouses have acknowledged they are in violation of profit and sustainability regulations.

Everton is fighting to keep itself out of the Championship after already losing ten points. In their desperate attempt to stay in the Premier League, Nuno will want Forest to avoid suffering the same fate.

The approaching departure of Aurier from Forest
The news of Aurier’s resignation from The City Ground is hardly shocking. Throughout the 2023–24 season, the seasoned full-back has only played in 42% of the Premier League minutes that are available, as he has found it difficult to take Neco Williams’ place in Forest’s defense. Aurier will have been considered a target and possibly scheduled for a departure at the beginning of the winter transfer season, given how severely Forest needed money.

Aurier might find the stability he needs at Galatasaray permanently as he attempts to turn back into a regular at a major European team in the later stages of his career. As we approach the final hours of Deadline Day, Forest will be hoping that the defender’s exit will free up space on the salary bill for future signings.
