Dolphins are added by Eagles Joe Kasper will revamp the defensive coaching staff, according to an NBC Sports Philadelphia report.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Eagles have appointed Joe Kasper, a former assistant coach for the Eagles and current assistant coach of the Dolphins, as their new safeties coach.

Kasper worked under new Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in 2022 after being on Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff in 2021 and 2022. In Miami last year, he and Fangio got back together.

Under Jonathan Gannon, Kasper served as the defensive quality control coach for the Eagles in 2021 and 2022. This past season, he was the safety coach for the Dolphins.

After the Eagles parted ways with both of the 2023 defensive coordinators, Sean Desai and Matt Patricia, and hired Fangio, they proceeded to reassemble their defensive coaching staff, which includes the appointment of Kasper.

Fangio has reportedly hired two assistants, the other being Kasper. Clint Hurtt, a former defensive coordinator for the Seahawks, has apparently joined the Eagles as a defensive line coach. Karl Scott, another Seahawks assistant, was once rumored to be joining Hurtt as the Eagles secondary coach, but it looks like Scott will stay in Seattle.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, D.K. McDonald, who served as the Eagles’ secondary coach in 2023, is anticipated to join the University of Kansas as co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach on Friday.

Former Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry and former Eagles linebacker and assistant coach Mike Caldwell are the two candidates the Eagles have interviewed for the linebacker position.

Additional defensive coordinators on the 2023 team included linebacker D.J. Eliot, defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, edge rusher Jeremiah Washburn, nickel corner Ronell Williams, assistant secondary coach Taver Johnson, assistant linebacker assistant Tyler Scudder, defensive quality control coach Mike DiAngelo, and defensive assistant Matt Leo.

While Fangio may choose to hold onto some, it is unlikely that the majority will stick with the squad.

Fangio will start his 44th season as a football coach this year. He worked with the Eagles as a defensive consultant during the 2022 Super Bowl season.

Kasper played collegiate football at Baldwin Wallace in Berea, Ohio, before becoming a coach at Mentor High, his alma mater, which is northeast of Cleveland. Sirianni’s alma mater, Mount Union, is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference where Baldwin Wallace plays.

After serving as a graduate assistant under David Cutliffe at Duke from 2018 to 2020, he coached wide receivers at NCAA Division 3 John Carroll outside of Cleveland in 2017. In 2020, he joined the Eagles.
