At Wrexham, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have always made money accessible, but Phil Parkinson has given an explanation for why business wasn’t busier in January.
Consequently, what happened?
As they attempt to complete back-to-back promotions, the Red Dragons were anticipated to strengthen their roster during the winter window. At SToK Racecourse, business was conducted, but a lot of it took place on the day of the deadline when Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott arrived.
THE LARGER IMAGE
Wrexham would never have needed more than a little tweaking, but if more money had been invested further up the League ladder, more fresh players could have been welcomed to North Wales. There weren’t as many transactions to be done at all levels of the pyramid because Premier League teams were comparatively quiet.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
Regarding Wrexham’s attempts in January, Parkinson told The Athletic: “The window has been a difficult one at our level.” mostly as a result of the lack of movement at the top of the game. Lower down, that then has a domino effect. Perhaps players that we had assumed would be available turned out not to be. I’m largely satisfied and eager for us to focus for the remainder of the season. It was crucial to maintain the caliber of the team, especially Arthur Okonkwo. Luke and Jack, two excellent acquisitions, along with the guys returning from injury, round up our roster.
We had been observing Luke for some time. He’s a straightforward and dynamic player that we think has a lot to offer the team. Furthermore, he is still young and has a lot of space to grow. That signing satisfied us, and I’m excited to collaborate with him. Jack is similar in that he plays a solid all-around game. He has tremendous movement, a strong goal record throughout his career, and you can play to his feet. Timing can play a role in signings. We took a look at him in the summer, but we decided against it since the deal was too costly at that time. Jack became available since Fleetwood was now in a dangerous position at the base of League One.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
With three months remaining, Wrexham is only six points behind Stockport, who are atop the League Two standings, despite their first game following the latest window closing ending in a 3-1 loss against Salford. Despite this setback, they still have games in hand.
