With great faith in his group, Willy Gnonto has sent a message to Leeds United’s followers and is looking for a way to solve a “problem” for the Whites.
When he submitted a transfer request to Leeds last summer, Gnonto appeared destined to depart the team. However, he was eventually brought back into the fold and, in just his eighth league start of the season, proved to be United’s matchwinner against Bristol City on Friday night.
The 20-year-old’s name was loudly and clearly announced six months after submitting a transfer request as United triumphed at Ashton Gate. Gnonto then thanked the club’s supporters.
Gnonto responded to LUTV when asked about the fans singing his name, saying, “It’s a good feeling.” It’s been a long time, but I’m overjoyed. I sincerely appreciate everything they have done for me thus far, and for now, all we want to do is carry on.”
The game’s lone goal finally turned out to be a strike in the 47th minute. Gnonto, who called for a “clever” approach from his Whites, acknowledged that the problem needed to be resolved as he pressed Leeds again, giving them so many chances but only managing one goal.
“I feel like it’s been a ‘problem’ all this season,” Gnonto said. These teams obviously have skill and are capable of scoring goals on a regular basis, so we have plenty of opportunities and create a lot of things; sometimes we just need to finish.
“All we have to do is strive to finish the games earlier and to be a little more resourceful. We know we have what it takes to win every game; all we need to do is maintain playing this way and we’ll succeed in the cup as well. We just want to win every game and approach every game with the same mindset because I think we can win the championship because there isn’t time for relaxation”.
