Coventry City supporters have every reason to be concerned about who would score goals at the CBS Arena this season after losing Viktor Gyokeres in the summer.

Though his “replacements,” such as Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, haven’t exactly made an impression at the club yet, Coventry City has managed the Swedish forward’s departure quite well.

For instance, despite losing Gyokeres’ evident goal-scoring ability, the team is currently in the running for a play-off spot in the Championship.

Sporting CP Signs Viktor Gyokeres
When we think back to the summer, the Sky Blues knew they had to sell Gyokeres to Sporting.

With just one year remaining on his contract, Coventry was forced to cash in on the Swedish forward who had heartbreakingly missed out on promotion to the Premier League at Wembley. The forward’s chances of signing a new contract at the CBS Arena appeared poor.

Gyokeres only had a year remaining on his contract, but the club was still able to get a sizable payment.

According to reports, the player signed a contract with Sporting for an estimated £20 million, which is a significant sum, particularly in the Championship.

Additionally, Gyokeres has a 15% sell-on clause, per reports, with Coventry City.

More Gyokeres profit is expected in Coventry City this summer.

Coventry City will undoubtedly be happier every week that they included a sell-on provision in the agreement to acquire the Swedish forward.

This is, in fact, because they will undoubtedly make a sizable profit this summer from it.

Viktor Gyokeres has been a huge hit since moving to Portugal, and the forward is only getting better at his new team.

Indeed, Gyokeres is playing at full capacity whether in the league, the cup, or Europe.

For instance, in 18 games in Liga Portugal, the 25-year-old has 15 goals and seven assists.

Gyokeres has been just as prolific in cup events, tallying two assists and six goals in four contests.

Lastly, Gyokeres has scored three goals in five games and provided one assist in the Europa League.

That brings the 25-year-old’s total goal and assist total to 24 goals and 10 assists in just 27 games—and we haven’t even reached February yet.

Big clubs linked with Gyokeres

Some of the greatest teams in Europe are taking notice of those kinds of figures, which is fantastic news for Coventry since they have a sell-on clause.

For instance, the Swedish star is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, two of the biggest teams in the Premier League.

At one point, reports even stated Chelsea was prepared to submit a £73 million offer.

If that’s the current worth, imagine what it will be in a few months and during the summer transfer window when several teams might engage in a bidding war.

Gyokeres reportedly has an £87 million release clause, which is undoubtedly what it will cost to sign him in the summer.

In fact, with their sell-on clause in place, Coventry City should anticipate even more benefits from the sale of Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
