A severe injury sustained by Michael Olise could be fatal to Crystal Palace’s chances of surviving.
In addition to Eberechi Eze’s already-existing injury, Crystal Palace’s day was further marred by a concerning 4-1 loss at the hands of rivals Brighton.
The first blow came when Marc Guehi was forced off the field due to injury in the 28th minute of play.
The major event came in the second half when Michael Olise was substituted off due to injury just 11 minutes after his arrival. Roy Hodgson has now disclosed the nature of his star player’s injury, having previously accepted a large portion of the blame.
Roy Hodgson speaks up about the injury of Michael Olise
Before Monday’s match against Chelsea, Hodgson addressed the media and revealed his silence over Olise’s injury. He also stated that Guehi and Eze will now both be available. In reference to the three individuals that will go missing over the following few weeks, Hodgson stated, “We have lost all three of them—it’s a massive blow.”
Hodgson mentioned that Olise had sustained an injury, but he omitted to clarify his involvement in the blow. “It is truly devastating for Michael that he has sustained another serious injury.”
Monday May Be Hodgson’s D-Day, in Our Opinion
Hodgson’s 200th game in charge of Crystal Palace will take place on Monday against Chelsea, but in the lead-up to this significant event, he appears to be getting closer to leaving. The 76-year-old is without his three most important players, which raises concerns about a confident Chelsea team coming off an impressive victory over Aston Villa.
After yet another crushing loss, it’s difficult to see how the team could avoid dealing with Hodgson’s situation, which is becoming increasingly precarious given the opposition he currently faces from the supporters.
Whatever transpires, it’s unfortunate because Hodgson should have been fired long before things got to this point.
