Journalist Dean Jones claims that West Ham is being “cautious” in their choice to give David Moyes a new contract.
With Moyes’ current contract scheduled to expire at the conclusion of the season, Fabrizio Romano claimed on February 4 (Daily Briefing) that talks between the parties regarding a contract extension were “advancing well.”
But according to Sportslens (7 February), the recent decline in the London Stadium’s performance and the ensuing discontent among fans has caused the parties’ negotiations to stall.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones stated that while there isn’t much of a rush in the boardroom to put pen to paper, he still believes Moyes will get a new contract.
“I’ve been thinking for a while now that it would be difficult to imagine West Ham not offering Moyes a new contract,” he stated.
They have undoubtedly made an effort to proceed cautiously when making that choice. However, you would argue that, if granted one, he merits a new contract at this point.
Does West Ham still have a deal in place with David Moyes?
At Christmas, it would have seemed absurd to believe that Moyes, who had guided West Ham to sixth place in the table and a drive for another season of continental football, would not have been in the running for a new contract at the club.
However, since defeating Arsenal on December 28, the Hammers have lost their last six games across all competitions, and as a result, Bristol City eliminated them from the FA Cup.
The Hammers are now sitting seventh in the standings and will shortly return to playing in the Europa League, but some fans have a sneaking suspicion that Moyes may not be the long-term manager they need.
It would be quite harsh if Moyes were to not be able to secure a new contract since the other camp will defend Moyes’ record, particularly after he guided the team to an incredible Europa Conference League victory the previous season. However, it appears that there is still some ambiguity about the case.
