Lucas Paqueta, a star for West Ham, is expected to see his FA investigation into possible betting violations come to a close. The investigation into Paqueta’s betting violations is almost finished, which means West Ham will soon find out the outcome, sources have told Football Insider.
In August, the Hammers received word that their 26-year-old player was under investigation for possible bet violations. Football Insider called the Football Association on Thursday; they acknowledged that the investigation is still ongoing but did not comment on the timing. Football Insider has been informed by a reliable source that the investigation is drawing to an end, and both West Ham and the player are expecting the results. Even though Paqueta has not been charged by the FA and has continued to play for West Ham this season, his move to champions Manchester City collapsed as a result of his betting claims, which surfaced during the height of the summer transfer window.
Football Insider reported in August that City had made an offer of £80 million to capture the Brazil international, but his betting investigation ended their interest. Paqueta remained in London after the collapse and has been perhaps the best player at the London Stadium this season, with five goals and six assists. According to the Daily Mail, Paqueta’s inquiry got underway when Betway, the team’s sponsor, discovered questionable betting activity.
When several bets were placed on Paqueta getting booked during West Ham’s Premier League matchup with Aston Villa in March, Betway’s alarm system went off. Months after the probe began, in October, Paqueta gave the FA access to his phone. In other news, West Ham was ready for Man United to outbid them for the 21-year-old star.
