As journalist George Simms discusses possible problems with club chairman Steve Parish, Crystal Palace may have “issues” with likely new manager Oliver Glasner.

Even though Roy Hodgson, the current head coach, became unwell during training on Thursday afternoon, there have been many rumours suggesting that Glaser will take over for the legendary Palace player. Thankfully, Hodgson’s situation is stable and he is recuperating; but, prior to his regrettable occurrence, it is said that Glasner and Selhurst Park management had reached a mutual agreement regarding the 76-year-old taking on the Palace hot seat.
Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano announced that a deal has been reached between Palace and the former manager of Eintracht Frankfurt. Hodgson will leave the south Londoners following another term as manager of his childhood club.
The Eagles have had a terrible season so far; in fact, they rank among the lowest-scoring teams in the division and are currently on the verge of Premier League relegation. The only teams in the bottom three this season with less goals scored than Palace are Everton, Burnley, and Sheffield United. There have been rumours circulating that Parish has been searching for a new manager for the previous few weeks.
However, Glasner has been confirmed by the club and has a very promising history as a tactician. His resume includes an Austrian second division championship and a Europa League winners medal, and former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has praised his “meticulous” attention to detail.
He told the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung (via Bundesliga) that “he’s very structured, very well organised, meticulous, observes the opposition very closely and prepares the team very well for them.”
He doesn’t simply let Eintracht get away with murder. Throughout the training week, he modifies his strategy and attempts to imitate the opposition. Oliver works systematically and doesn’t chop and change, which has helped him communicate his football concepts to his team.
Simms of inews notes that there are disadvantages to his entrance as well.
Palace handed Glasner a setback when the writer dismissed Parish matters.
At former teams Eintracht and Wolfsburg, the 49-year-old was at the centre of disagreements with club executives on transfer policy, resulting in poor ties with the board and sporting directors.
As Simms notes, Palace “issues could arise” in a similar way with Parish and Glasner. There is a “risk” associated with him because of his ambition and propensity to push for total control. What happens with this will be intriguing to watch since it may turn out to be a match made in heaven or it may be bound to fail.
