Wrexham provided promotion support, and Oldham owner Frank Rothwell hopes to avoid seeing Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney again.

Consequently, what happened?
Rothwell, 73, raised $2,000 (£1,600) for his fundraising drive before taking on an Atlantic Ocean rowing challenge thanks to the contributions of the Red Dragons’ Hollywood co-chairmen. After completing the quest, he travelled to Antigua from the Canary Islands.

Rothwell will always be appreciative to Reynolds, McElhenney, and everyone else who donated desperately needed money to a worthy cause. Now that he’s back in football territory, he can focus on Oldham’s current campaign to qualify for the National League playoffs.

WHAT ROTHWELL SAID IN RELATING TO MCELHENNEY & REYNOLDS
They might rejoin Wrexham if promotion is achieved in 2023–2024, but the Welsh team is excelling in League Two and wants to advance further on their own. When asked if he had any words for Reynolds and McElhenney, Rothwell expressed his hope that this would come to pass, adding, “This is what I’d like to say to Ryan and Rob – thank you very much for the donation you made.” I really appreciate it, and I want the best for Wrexham. We don’t want to play you again the following year, therefore I hope Wrexham gets promoted!

Next?
Last season, Oldham faced off against Wrexham three times—once in the FA Cup and once in the National League. It’s hardly surprising that the Latics are hesitant to accept a reunion anytime soon given that the Red Dragons won all of those games by a total score of 10-2.
