According to reports, two seasoned Rangers players will be leaving the team in the upcoming months.
Rangers’ fortunes have taken a stunning turn around after the hiring of Belgian head coach Philippe Clement. Earlier this week, they defeated struggling Ross County 3-1 to take a share of the Scottish Premiership.
With a first-half brace from Cyriel Dessers and a header from John Souttar in injury time, the Ibrox team clinched the victory and levelled the score with Old Firm rivals Celtic, who lead the Scottish Premiership alone on goal differential.
But if Rangers are to unseat the Hoops and win the Scottish Premiership at the conclusion of the season, it might be the last swangsong of two of the team’s longest-serving players. According to exclusive rumours, Borna Barisic and Kemar Roofe will both be permitted to leave the team this summer.
Pete O’Rourke reports that because of Roofe’s persistent injury problems, the Gers want to cut him this summer. When healthy, the former Leeds United player has contributed significantly to Rangers, although his time in Glasgow has been marred by multiple injury setbacks. His most recent absence dates back to December, when he sustained an injury early in the St Johnstone match; there have been no updates regarding his recovery.
The article also claims that, with his contract expiring in June, Croatian left back Barisic would probably follow Roofe out of the Ibrox this summer. After reportedly paying £2.2 million to join the team in 2018, the defender from Osijek returned to the team and has been a consistent starter ever since. During his six seasons in Glasgow, he has played in more than 200 games for the Gers and has won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup.
However, Barisic has lost his spot in the team for the first time in his Ibrox career as a result of Turkish full back Ridvan Yilmaz’s encouraging play. According to recent reports, the Croatian star, who has been linked to AS Roma, wants to take advantage of his situation as a free agent.
