Diego Carlos, a defender for Aston Villa, has spoken out following yet another injury setback.
The Brazilian’s time in the West Midlands has not been kind to him; his 2022–2023 season was cut short before it got off to a proper start due to an Achilles injury. Under Unai Emery, Carlos’s injury record has much improved this season, as he has managed 17 appearances.
But this week during training, the £26 million acquisition strained his hamstring, and he will likely miss more time due to injury. For the first time since incurring the injury, the defender has spoken out ahead of the Villans’ Premier League matchup against Fulham on Saturday.
Diego Carlos breaks the injury quiet surrounding Aston Villa Emery’s team travels to West London in an attempt to recover from their most recent defeat by Manchester United. Carlos will now be in the treatment room with Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, so the Spaniard will need to rearrange his defence.
The Brazilian wrote to X early on Saturday morning, saying, “Sad to be injured again.” putting up a lot of effort to return. Today is a big game for us. Come on. Pau Torres and Clement Lenglet will probably start for Villa in the middle of defence. Lenglet has started playing frequently lately, and at the end of the season, he may make a permanent move to Villa Park.
Torres, who has struggled recently with an ankle injury, is expected to make his first start of 2024. Prior to the match, the Villa manager acknowledged that he has never seen anything like the current injury list. This is unlike any other time I can recall,” he said to The Daily Mail.
It isn’t a defence. I always realise that injuries occur, but this is the worst case scenario. Since we are only human, it goes without saying that we will assist the players, especially those who have ACL problems.
But we have to accept it and go forward, he continued. We want to help the players who will have opportunities, we work hard, and we are positive.
Fortunately, Villa is in a fantastic position thanks to their recruitment. The fact that Emery has a £33 million signing in the wings demonstrates the amount of talent at his disposal.
Going ahead, Torres and Lenglet will be crucial players from this point on until the end of the season. If they can establish a strong working relationship, qualifying for the Champions League will still be a top priority.
