Coventry should look to Oxford United for a replacement as Callum O’Hare may be leaving in the summer.
Coventry City is having yet another excellent Championship season.
The Sky Blues lost to Luton Town in a penalty shootout at Wembley last season, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League. Many people thought Coventry would end their campaign after losing Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, but that hasn’t happened yet.
The Sky Blues, who have only lost eight of their 33 league games this season, are sixth in the Championship table as of February 18 and are proving to be quite tough to beat. They are very much in the running for the playoffs once more, but the clubs below them will give them plenty of competition.
A major contributor to Coventry’s on-field success this year has been their attacking midfielder, Callum O’Hare. Due to an injury, the 25-year-old missed the first few games of the season, but since making a comeback, he has contributed significantly to their attacking performance. Regretfully, O’Hare may be leaving in the summer, thus Coventry will need to find a replacement. League One promotion candidates may be given a look.
O’Hare’s contract situation
Since O’Hare’s contract is scheduled to expire in the summer, many clubs will be thrilled to learn that he will be a free agency at the end of the season if a deal is not reached between the player and the club.
Although it is known that O’Hare has received a new contract offer, he acknowledged in a Sky Sports interview last month that he was unaware of the progress of the negotiations. “They actually offered me one, but at the minute, honestly, I don’t have a clue what’s going on,”
Everyone at the club is aware of my deep passion for this place, so it goes without saying that I have a unique bond with the supporters. All I can say is that I’m going to give it my all to win games here; we’ll see what happens. Really, that’s all that matters. Give the club your all.”
O’Hare is an essential member of the Coventry team, and his attacking playmaking would be greatly missed if he does leave, but Oxford United might have someone in their ranks who can fill the role. Coventry ought to monitor the Oxford United player
TEAMtalk disclosed before the close of the January transfer window that Coventry was one of four Championship teams watching Tyler Goodrham, a promising player for Oxford United. The 20-year-old stayed in Oxfordshire despite a lot of talk, but Coventry should keep an eye on O’Hare as a potential successor given that he may be leaving in the summer. Goodrham had his first appearance in Oxford’s first team last season, but this year he has improved his skills and added goals, making him one of the U’s most valued forwards.
In all competitions thus far, the 20-year-old has assisted four goals and scored nine goals—an incredible stat line for a winger. Given that he is only 20 years old and his season-long performances indicate that he has the potential to play farther up the Football League pyramid, a summer transfer to the Championship would be a logical next step for him. Oxford United is currently vying for a spot in the League One play-offs, but Coventry should move quickly to sign Goodrham as a possible Callum O’Hare replacement should they fail to earn promotion.
The Oxford man is capable of playing many different positions. Although he can play in the number 10 position, where O’Hare plays for Coventry, he primarily appears on the left or right wing.
Coventry could benefit greatly from Goodrham’s versatility in the upcoming season, and at 20, he still has a tonne of untapped potential. The Oxford United winger appears to be the ideal choice to take O’Hare’s spot if he decides to play out the remaining portion of his contract.
