Once more, Celtic will have to cope with the consequences of yet another poor performance under Brendan Rodgers.
Kilmarnock emerged victorious from the Bhoys’ lacklustre showing at Parkhead, as David Watson cancelled out Kyogo Furuhashi’s first goal in stoppage time to guarantee a share of the points.
The fact that Rodgers’ team has already dropped points seven times in the Scottish Premiership this season speaks much about his team’s inability to produce a run of reliable home performances.
The Irishman might bring up the fact that Celtic has won their past 10 games, but it won’t please fans who have noticed a notable drop in the club’s standards since the previous campaign. Of course, both the playing staff and the Hoops hierarchy must share some of the blame, but it is evident that Celtic are now underperforming at all levels.
With 12 games remaining before the season ends, there is still time to turn things around. However, immediate action on the field is required, beginning with a victory over Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
Chris Sutton makes a harsh evaluation of Celtic’s predicament.
Chris Sutton, a former Celtic player, is never afraid to express his genuine opinions on a subject, and he hasn’t held back when it comes to giving a harsh assessment of the Bhoys’ current season. Earlier today, while on media duties, the fifty-year-old got into a long-winded conversation about his former team’s recent performances.
Sutton said on Sky Sports: “Let’s be clear, the outcome wasn’t that shocking. Celtic has had a really mediocre season. I am aware that Brendan was discussing winning eight of the previous nine games and their recent form.
“Really, the victories have just covered over the holes. There haven’t been any performances. Celtic is not a good team this season; they are not fooling anyone. “Everyone is talking about the board, signings, and how long this moment has been coming. However, Brendan Rodgers needs to accept accountability. This season at Celtic, I cannot think of a single player that he has improved, and that is the manager’s fault.
He later added: “The brand of football they are playing is slow and predictable. There isn’t a fear factor at this moment in time. Teams fancy getting a result against them, so the Kilmarnock result wasn’t a great surprise to anyone and that’s it.”
Chris Sutton’s comments on Celtic will resonate with fans
Everyone will have their own opinions on the current situation at Celtic; however, Sutton does make some very valid points on the club’s malaise and why things may have got to this point.
The Bhoys need to get off to a fast start if they are to have a chance of winning the league trophy since a Scottish Premiership title is on the line.
Livingston will play in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals the following month, which is another competition that can offer a chance to win trophies in May.
In order to pursue a domestic double, Rodgers needs to extract more performance out of the players at his disposal, but we will have to wait and watch in the upcoming weeks.
