The goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who plays for Arsenal, maintained his first clean sheet in six games as Wrexham defeated Notts County 1-0 at the STōK Cae Ras this past weekend in a League Two match. Prior to Notts County’s visit, Wrexham, who take pride in being the third-oldest professional club in the world, had not kept a clean sheet in five straight games, with Okonkwo giving up ten goals in that time.
In minute 20, Steven Fletcher scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the hard-fought victory by volleying the ball into the top corner. Notts County nearly levelled the score four minutes after Wrexham’s opening goal, but Okonkwo stopped David McGoldrick’s left-footed shot that appeared to be heading into the bottom corner.
When McGoldrick fired home in the 70th minute, the Nigerian custodian appeared to be defeated, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball during the buildup. His season total of eleven from 25 games in all competitions, including nine in the fourth tier of English football, was reached with his clean sheet against Notts County.
