David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, is facing intense pressure to stay on after the current campaign.
After a strong start, Moyes, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, had discussions about signing a new one. After a disappointing run of play, the club is willing to commit to providing the 60-year-old a new contract. With some fans demanding that Moyes be fired, the situation has turned nasty. The Scotsman’s playing approach has left West Ham fans disgruntled as they have lost their last eight games across all competitions.
The Hammers board may decide to make a move before the season ends, but if the team’s performance starts to decline, they might act sooner rather than later.
West Ham makes the short list to take David Moyes’ place.
A report from the Daily Mail (20 February, print edition, page 65) claims that the Hammers are putting together a list of potential successors for Moyes.
The Hammers have already begun interviewing potential successors to the departing Manchester United manager. According to the article, they are considering those who are accessible and prepared to start work. Although the club isn’t currently under any pressure to fire Moyes right now, the fact that they are considering their options shows that Moyes’s position is in grave danger.
The Hammers are interested in three candidates: Julen Lopetegui, Steve Cooper, and Graham Potter. They are also still very much in the running for Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.
It’s fascinating how much interest there is in Potter. The 48-year-old was out of his element at Chelsea but performed admirably at Brighton. Potter has the ability to play a visually appealing style of football. He will be eager to return to work and would likely accept an offer from West Ham should they make one.
