Expert in football finance Kieran Maguire has sprang to Nottingham Forest’s defence in their fight against claims related to profit and sustainability. He’s been in conversation with I News. What has Maguire said about the current state of affairs at Forest, then? Let’s delve in and examine more closely.

Nottingham Forest is defended by Kieran Maguire.
Maguire has, however, previously stood up for Forest in their attempt to receive the least amount of punishment. While no one from the Forest is advocating that they shouldn’t face consequences, it’s still a worrying moment. Given the state of affairs involving Everton, it is likely that Forest will be docked points this season. Maguire, though, feels that Forest has been given a bit of a harsh deal in this entire affair.

“In my opinion, Forest have gotten a fairly raw deal in terms of Financial Fair Play,” he said to I News.

“They were promoted against squads that cost billions of pounds, with a squad that cost £12 million. Because they were an EFL club for a portion of the accounting period, they only have a £62 million permitted loss for FFP reasons, as opposed to a £105 million allowable loss for the Premier League’s established teams.

Forest will have to take their punishment on the chin

That there isn’t a loophole that gives promoted clubs a little more leeway in terms of defeats does seem utterly unfair.
It ultimately seems as though the Premier League won’t let a Championship club be competitive if they don’t receive parachute payments. With his most recent remarks on Forest, Maguire has really nailed the mark, even though they do come across as a little harsh.

But as the laws are unchangeable, Forest will eventually have to accept their penalty and the fate that is imposed upon them.
