During the winter transfer season, Celtic saw a number of near-misses as they ultimately failed to complete deals in time for the deadline.

Despite late attempts to lure Paris Saint-Germain outcast Lavyin Kurzawa and Wolverhampton Wanderers star Hugo Bueno to Parkhead, the Bhoys’ unsuccessful search for a left-back will be remembered most.

After almost a month, newly arrived players Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah got comfortable in and started to prove their worth during their little time on the pitch. Conversely, there is a simmering dissatisfaction among the supporters about Brendan Rodgers’ lack of increased spending authority.
Early in February, Football Scotland revealed that a number of players, particularly left-sided defenders, were assigned to Celtic, with some names reaching the Irishman’s level of command before being dropped.
Every market period will see discussions fail for various reasons, but in the meanwhile, supporters are left perplexed by a roster lacking in quality.

Jeong Ho-yeon explains why Celtic move never materialised

Midfielder Jeong Ho-yeon of Gwangju had discussions with Celtic last month regarding a possible transfer to Glasgow; however, the South Korea Under-23 international never received a transfer bid.

In an interview conducted a little more than three weeks ago, the 23-year-old stated that, despite his name being linked to Rodgers’ team, he has “heard nothing about a transfer to Celtic.”

Jeong gave an explanation for his lack of attendance at Parkhead in January, saying, “There was no official offer; it’s because I’m not good enough,” in an interview with Sports Seoul via The Daily Record. I would have preferred to travel to Europe if I had been given the opportunity. However, no offer was made. I still think I could use a lot more improvement, and I believe the club saw it too. “I believe that this season, I have to become a more valuable player. I don’t currently have any regrets because I believe there is a lot of room for progress. According to Transfermarkt, Jeong has made 71 appearances for Gwangju in all competitions, with three goals and seven assists.

Celtic will soon turn an eye to their summer recruitment

In the broad scheme of things, the second half of the season isn’t that lengthy, despite the absurdity of Celtic deciding on their summer transfer choices already.

The quantity of spare parts that end up on the Parkhead bench makes it obvious that Rodgers’ team needs a shake-up, regardless of the season’s result.

Better quality control on the transfer front is something the Bhoys should be doing in order to put an end to the practice of hoarding players who don’t meet the necessary standards to play for the team.
