If Arkansas could entice Deion Sanders away from the Colorado football programme, they would have their next Bobby Petrino or Lou Holtz as head coach—at least, this is what All Hogs’ Jacob Davis believes.

Prior to stating, “A high-profile celebrity who can recruit based on name recognition alone would do wonders for Arkansas in the SEC, the Razorbacks would certainly benefit from a coach of Sanders’ type,” Davis stated, “The Razorbacks!” In Fayetteville, unconventional appointments have proven successful. Examples include Lou Holtz’s tenure from 1977 to 1983 and Bobby Petrino’s 2008 return to collegiate football.”

As Davis notes, Sanders conducted an interview in 2020 while leading Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas, just before to his employment at Jackson State and in the midst of his transition from high school.

“Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek reportedly interviewed Sanders before the hiring of Pittman in 2020,” said Davis. “Former Razorback and owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, was able to secure at least a meet-and-greet between the two, but his lack of college coaching experience was a deal breaker for Yurachek.”

Coach Prime never leaving Colorado football for Arkansas

Arkansas won’t ever experience “Prime Time.”

Before Mike Elko was hired by the Aggies this offseason, Coach Prime refused to even consider Texas A&M. Sanders will not move from Colorado to what may be considered a lateral position in Arkansas. It might not even be a lateral shift, considering CU’s potential in the Big 12 and Arkansas’s schedule that includes teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Mizzou, and Tennessee.

In the long run, Colorado might be a better option than Arkansas if Coach Prime can finish what he started in Boulder.

If reports about Sanders are to be believed, he has no plans to relocate in the upcoming years. However, Arkansas won’t be an option if that ever changes.
