A talkSPORT story claims that in light of Roberto De Zerbi’s connections to Barcelona, Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion wants to extend De Zerbi’s contract.
As previously reported, Barcelona is now keeping an eye on the Italian manager, who would be open to coaching in Spain. He’s even stated that he feels incredibly proud when teams like Barcelona are connected to him.
Thomas Tuchel’s departure from Bayern Munich at the end of the season has added to the intrigue around Barcelona’s current rumoured search for a new manager.
Brighton in talks with De Zerbi
There have reportedly been talks between Brighton and De Zerbi about a possible contract extension. The Italian has not yet received an approach from any other teams, despite the news surrounding his links with many clubs.
According to reports, Barcelona has shortlisted De Zerbi, 44, to take Xavi’s place when the season ends. However, the Italian coach has also won the respect of major teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Italian squads.
De Zerbi’s current contract expires in the summer of 2026, although he hasn’t made any indication that he plans to leave Brighton.
In the meantime, it’s believed that Brighton’s decision to extend the contract of their manager is supported by the fact that they don’t need to sell any of their best players in order to raise money.
According to reports, club owner Tony Bloom is preparing an aggressive summer transfer window recruitment strategy with the goal of turning his team into a reputable European squad.
With so many possibilities to choose from, Barcelona should be expected to conduct a more thorough investigation.
Tuchel is rumoured to be on their agenda as well for the time being, and the German is reportedly keen to take up the Barcelona job. In addition, Hansi Flick might be approached; he is presently associated with Bayern Munich, although he also favours Barcelona over the Bavarians.
