Derek Ferguson described Philippe Clement’s ability to keep Rangers singing despite making changes to his lineup as “quite incredible.”

A day after Kilmarnock held Celtic, the Gers defeated St Johnstone 3-0 on Sunday, February 18, to take top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite altering his team, Derek Ferguson called Philippe Clement’s ability to keep the Rangers singing “quite incredible.”

On Sunday, February 18, the Gers defeated St Johnstone 3-0 to take first place in the Scottish Premiership, one day after Kilmarnock held Celtic.

“He wasn’t playing at his best one game, but the manager stuck with him for the full 90 minutes. Scott Wright entered the game after him and didn’t perform particularly well; it was against St Johnstone.

“Cyriel Dessers, once more—the likelihood that he has been absent—occasionally makes you kind of shake your head, but Dessers is a tester; he gives it his all.

“I couldn’t tell you the team; even Borna Barisic, the left back, seems to be chopping and changing.” Next, Todd Cantwell has been playing out of his skin in the middle of the park, where Tom Lawrence is back and totally fit.

He always manages to pull a tune out of them, which is quite amazing. He appears to play them and get specific minutes out of them before bringing in other musicians for a while.

“I think that’s gone—having a starting lineup and playing three, four, or five games—because he always talks about the team. I know he looks at this game and knows it’s a big one, but I also think he’s got an eye on the other games we have coming up, like Kilmarnock and the Europa League.

“He has the majority of them in shape; a few will return, but what will that side entail? I’m not sure, but I’m thinking that team, who now lead by two points, will be fired up.

“I’m not sure about Dessers; maybe McCausland, maybe Fabio Silva will return.” I’m not sure, but there will be players that will be competitive and put on a fantastic show in addition to winning.

Who will start for Rangers v Hearts?

At Ibrox, almost everything Clement has touched this season has turned to gold; the only loss they have had under the Belgian coach came against Celtic towards the close of the previous campaign.

Since taking the reins at Ibrox, Clement has dealt with a number of injuries, but he hasn’t been reluctant to switch up his starting lineups even when players are well.

Given the gaffer’s few alternatives, it is tough to anticipate who will start against Hearts this weekend.

Whoever wins the jersey will undoubtedly be fired up for the match as the Rangers attempt to put further pressure on the winner in an exciting race for the championship.
