Higgins is anticipated to receive the franchise tag from the Bengals.
Cincinnati — Tee Higgins is expected to sign a franchise tag with the Bengals, but that doesn’t mean a long-term agreement is off the table.
Cincinnati is reportedly hoping to sign the 25-year-old wide receiver this summer, according to NFL insider Tony Pauline.
“Sources close to the Bengals tell me the team is trying to negotiate a contract extension with Higgins to lock him up for the next several years,” wrote Pauline. “The team will tag the wideout but keep negotiating in the hopes of landing a long-term deal before the season begins if they are unable to reach an agreement with him by March 5.
“Any way you cut it, the Bengals hope Higgins’ long-term future resides in Cincinnati.”
The franchise tag would bring in $20.7 million for Higgins. The team can use the tag on him until March 5th. They will have more time to work on a long-term extension if they do.
After four seasons with the Bengals, Higgins has 257 career catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns. In the 2020 NFL Draft, Cincinnati selected him with the 33rd overall pick.
