What moves will the Cowboys front management make this offseason about some of the offence? We’ve thought of a few things.

This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys will have to make some difficult choices. They have considerable leeway because of the new pay ceiling, but 16 of their players are about to enter free agency. Not only that, but because of certain transactions they made last year, the team just has three draft picks remaining over the first 170 picks in the 2018 NFL draft. Without a doubt, the front office will have their hands full in the coming months.

We wanted to go over some of the probable moves the Cowboys will make with some of their key offensive players as difficult decisions approach. Many of these subjects have been explored in individual pieces over the past few weeks, but we wanted to compile them in one place.

Give CeeDee Lamb an extension

We won’t spend much time on this one because it fits into the category of “tell us something we don’t know.” Over his four seasons with the Cowboys, Lamb has improved every year. They are not going to allow him to escape in any way. He is under player control through 2024 because the organisation exercised his fifth-year option, although front office executives usually like to sign their stars before they start their final season.

The only things for which we lack knowledge are “when” and “how much.” Though it might happen at any point between March and September, we believe Jerry will push this one to the very end and sign a contract one week prior to the start of the regular season. In terms of income, he is expected to earn approximately $30 million annually.

Make Dak Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history

We should not forget that Jerry Jones and company previously went through five years without a viable quarterback between Troy Aikman and Tony Romo. Dak Prescott recently finished second in the NFL MVP voting. It’s unlikely that the 81-year-old Jones would consider pressing the reset button and taking a chance on going through all over again.

The amount of his present deal that they have pushed out into the future is what makes this situation so telling. That suggests that they will be financially dependent on him for the foreseeable future. Prescott is receiving his suitcase because the Joneses have faith in him. And since that’s how it always works when the next QB resets the market, that bag is probably going to be the largest trade in NFL history. In case you’re still unsure about the Cowboys’ potential course of action, we outlined their three possibilities with Prescott last month.
