Wasteful Wrexham’s loss to play-off contender Gillingham 1-0 knocked them out of League Two’s automatic promotion spots.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
At Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Tim Dieng’s goal in the 55th minute caused the Red Dragons to fall to fourth place in the rankings. The visitors’ closest scores came from Jacob Mendy, Steven Fletcher, and Elliot Lee, but the hosts held on to win all three points and move up to eighth. Crewe Alexandra outscored Phil Parkinson’s team into third place despite their 58% possession rate and 3 out of 15 shots on goal as their mini-revival came to an end.

THE STAR
Glenn Morris, the custodian for Gills, turned back the clock with a strong performance between the posts to hold out Wrexham. The 40-year-old produced several excellent saves to thwart Fletcher’s attempts in particular to maintain his team’s clean sheet.

THE MAJOR SLagger
Especially after falling behind 1-0, Wrexham’s lack of identity and game plan was evident. One could claim that Phil Parkinson mishandled his tactics and that his second-half substitutions had little effect.

NEXT WHAT HAPPENS?
Wrexham, who are only one point out of the top three, will play again on Tuesday, travelling to face lowly Forest Green Rovers, and then they will play two games that they can win, starting on March 2, at home against mid-table Accrington Stanley.
