Adam Idah, the star player for Celtic, has opened up on what it’s actually like to play for the team, and it’s safe to say that he has had a shock to his system.
The fans view the Republic of Ireland international as a hero after he scored two goals against Hibs earlier in the season and another two goals in today’s 3-1 victory over Motherwell.
But Idah experienced the biggest wake-up call of his life—that is, until the team drew with Aberdeen—and recognised how important it is to play for a side like Celtic.
Glasgow is intense, Idah told The Herald. Because of the size of the club, there is a weekly need to win games.
“I’m not accustomed to it. Clearly, there is a significant difference between this place and Norwich.
“We played Aberdeen away in my first game, and when we drew, I thought, ‘Well, that is a decent result.'” It most certainly wasn’t!
Because Celtic is such a large club, the demand is appropriate. The more I explore this area and the city, the more I see football, which I adore.
“In England, it’s not like that—you can’t just randomly draw something.
For me, that’s the main distinction, which makes sense. A learning curve exists.
“It’s great to have that winning mentality, and the guys who have been here for a while know the score.”
Celtics fans are beginning to warm up to Adam Idah.
Despite his heroics with the penalty against Hibs, I don’t believe it’s too far-fetched to suggest that the on-loan Norwich player was still under suspicion.
Idah still had a lot of work to do to win over the Hoops supporters, since he hadn’t scored in his previous two games and had missed a clear opportunity in yesterday’s draw against Kilmarnock.
I believe he has accomplished that with his performance at Fir Park today. If Idah wasn’t aware before today of the significance of playing for Celtic and the expectations of the team, he certainly is now.
Idah’s next game is a trip to Tynecastle on Sunday, where he will almost certainly start. And as all Celtic supporters are aware, a matchup versus Hearts can be intense, something Idah is sure to enjoy.
