Adam Devine, a Rangers loanee, experienced heartache in the closing moments as Celtic avoided yet another point loss against Motherwell thanks to two goals in injury time.
This season, the 20-year-old Ibrox right-back is on loan with the Steelmen. He started the final 3-1 loss against our Old Firm opponents at Fir Park.
And had Motherwell held out against the Parkhead team, who scored twice in injury time to end the game, it might have been a game that young Adam Devine will remember.
Devine, a graduate of the Rangers Academy, was making his third straight league start for Motherwell, and he was likely upset not to inflict more damage on our Old Firm opponents.
Adam Devine starts for Motherwell v Celtic
Motherwell led the game at halftime thanks to a goal from Blair Spittal, and six minutes after the restart, Adam Idah levelled.
After that, in the 94th minute of injury time, the Irish striker scored a vital goal, and Luis Palma completed the scoring to reduce the lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to two points.
It’s interesting to note that by this time, Oli Shaw had replaced Adam Devine on the Motherwell pitch, rendering him unable to withstand a late Celtic comeback.
We discussed the young player’s role in the title chase this season prior to the game, and Devine will be upset that he did not take more points away from our opponents.
Adam Devine, according to Fot Mob, earned a 6.8 rating throughout the game, winning all eight of his ground duels and making six clearances and eight recoveries.
Rangers must keep up Scottish Premiership pressure
Following Rangers’ 5-0 thumping of Hearts at Ibrox, Celtic faced pressure to reply against Motherwell in Lanarkshire.
A late double kept the Parkhead team within striking distance of the Rangers, as they appeared destined for yet another set of lost points.
Under Philippe Clement, the Gers have been playing consistently well, and Celtic has not been able to keep up with them in recent weeks.
There’s a certain unease surrounding the Parkhead side that doesn’t exist at Ibrox, and it seems like we should simply wait it out and carry out our business as usual.
The east portion of the city is not doing well, and after holding off Motherwell, they will need to get better in order to face more difficult tests in the future.
