The “ownership” challenge that Wrexham has been given has nothing to do with co-chairs Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
Consequently, what happened?
Hollywood celebrities at SToK Racecourse have been a major factor in the Red Dragons’ incredible three-year climb. Although they cannot directly affect results, they have had a remarkable effect off the pitch and have made it possible for improvements to be made there.
THE LARGER IMAGE
In early 2024, Phil Parkinson—the man tasked with delivering on that front—saw the first wave of instability in his reign. With just two victories in their previous eight games in all competitions, Wrexham is now outside of League Two’s automatic promotion spots.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
When asked what he needs to see from his players following a 1-0 loss at Gillingham, Parkinson responded, “I am frustrated with the goal we conceded but we have got enough to take a bit of ownership in and around that final third.” Parkinson is confident that another surge towards the finishing post can be staged. Not everyone looks at the strikers, and there are enough players. Regardless of your position on the pitch, when you step on it, we have enough to create pivotal moments in the game, something we haven’t done enough of lately, but I have no doubt that we will find it again.
“We will stick together, but football is about seizing those big moments.” Everyone is involved. Everyone needs to put in a little more effort, and we’ll make sure we do. Nothing is falling in our direction, but in football, you have to create your own luck. In the first half, we had a few three-against-one plays, and some of the football we played in our approach play was excellent. However, everyone is aware that the key is to put the ball in the net and play with precision when near the top of the pitch.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WREXHAM?
Even without their star scorer Paul Mullin on the bench, Wrexham has the firepower to start dominating opponents. They will want to resume their top-three challenge when they visit a struggling Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.
