Kemar Roofe will not play against Kilmarnock on Wednesday, February 28 in the Scottish Premiership, according to Philippe Clement.
In an effort to recover from a protracted injury, the striker has been training hard and making appearances for Rangers B in the interim.
Clement’s options up front have been restricted due to his lack of involvement for the senior team since December, and he has also been without Danilo and Abdallah Sima.
“The squad is fine – there have been no further injuries since the weekend but Kemar Roofe will not play – but this creates a chance for another player,” Clement stated on Tuesday, February 27, while speaking to the team’s official X account.
Kemar Roofe remains out of Rangers squad despite positive update
Even though Ibrox is enjoying an incredible run of form—10 games without a loss since losing to Old Firm rivals Celtic in December—Roothe has been a miss for the Gers.
Since Danilo and Sima are major losses and Rabbi Matondo is the most recent player to go on the injured list this season, Clement has been left with a rather small pool of attacking alternatives.
Since Clement arrived at Ibrox in October, Cyriel Dessers has been a fantastic addition to the team, since the striker failed to have the required impact under Michael Beale’s leadership.
Instead of running the danger of further injuries, the Belgian would prefer to be able to rotate his attacking line in order to keep all of his players fresh. But before making a comeback, Roofe needs to fully recover his fitness.
Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande were much-needed additions in January as they immediately made an impact and started scoring goals.
Kilmarnock will probably be easily defeated by Rangers, who show no signs of slowing down. Roofe will once again have to watch from the sidelines, but only for a little while.
