Speaking to the media today, Stephen Jones discussed Dak Prescott, Tyler Smith, and Tyron Smith in great detail. He has also discussed the health of a few Cowboys defensive players who are injured.

Overshown are Trevon Diggs and DeMarvion
Following their early-season ACL tears, Trevon Diggs and

DeMarvion Overshown have been putting in a lot of effort to return to the pitch in 2024. When questioned about his recovery status today at the NFL Scouting Combine, Stephen Jones had a positive response for both players.

It appears from Jones’ remarks that Diggs and Overshown will both be attending training camp in late July. It will be crucial if they can accomplish this to make sure they are ready for their comeback during the regular season. Both players have the ability to contribute significantly in areas where the Cowboys defence is weak.

Still, it is not unusual for sportsmen to recover from such serious injuries slowly. Following their post-injury returns, Terrence Steele (ACL), Michael Gallup (ACL), and Tony Pollard (leg fracture) have all struggled to recover to their previous levels of output. Players who suffer from injuries can suffer psychologically as well as physically. Getting some of those reps in at training camp before the season starts is a big step in the right way. It takes a lot of time and repetitions for players to feel secure in their bodies again.

Leighton Vander Esch

When asked if decisions had been made on a potential Leighton Vander Esch comeback, Steven Jones’ response was less optimistic than it was for Diggs and Overshown. In a tweet, Nick Harris of DallasCowbys.com said that Jones is giving Vander Esch more time to consider his options.

Sadly, Vander Esch has struggled with injuries during his six years in the NFL, including stingers, repeated neck problems, and a broken collarbone. Following his most recent neck injury in 2023, Vander Esch is considering retirement. The NFL veteran, who was selected to the second team as an All-Pro, has had an incredible career and should be proud of it. It’s not a choice to be taken lightly, since his family and health are his main priority, and the Cowboys organisation is allowing him to speak about it when he is ready.
