There is no space for distractions if Celtic is to win a third straight league title. They must present a unified front.

Nevertheless, off-field problems have put Israel international Liel Abada in a precarious situation right now, casting doubt on his future at Parkhead.

The 22-year-old was left off of Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish Cup squad against St Mirren earlier this month because he wasn’t in the “right frame of mind” to play, and he hasn’t been added to the team since.

Major League Soccer teams have indicated interest in providing an escape route from Parkhead for the man who was born in Petah Tikva, according to reports from his home country.

It has been widely known that Abada is being courted by Atlanta United and Austin FC, and that negotiations have already taken place with his agency.

It’s unclear whether rumours from elsewhere are true, but there have also been hints that he no longer wants to be included in the Hoops’ matchday roster.

If Abada is unable to participate in the remainder of the campaign, it may be best for all parties to end things amicably between Celtic and Abada.

Brendan Rodgers discusses Liel Abada’s Celtic future

Considering the complexities of Abada’s circumstances, Rodgers has been reasonably honest in his appraisal of the winger’s future and has responded to inquiries about him in a suitable manner.

The Irishman provided some clarification on his status at Parkhead when he was pushed once more about rumours that he might be ready to go on during his most recent press conference.

In response to a question about whether Abada’s departure from the team has advanced [Celtic FC YouTube], he said, “No.” Nothing new to report about that. He’s still got himself into a terrible situation.

“But sure, we’ll see if that can be resolved.”

Subsequently, Rodgers flatly denied any suggestion that the player might break free from his Celtics contract in order to make a trade, saying, “I haven’t heard that, no.”

Liel Abada and Celtic should part ways at this point

With an outstanding 29 goals and 22 assists in 112 games for Celtic, Abada has shown to be a valuable asset to the team [Transfermarkt].

Even still, it appears that things are only going in one way, so before too long, both sides may choose to shake hands and move on.

It would be wise for him to go on if he isn’t playing at all, regardless of whether he stays until the summer or is considered for a departure halfway through the second half of the season.
