Elliot Lee gave an explanation for why he moved down three divisions to join Wrexham and how his agent almost kept their transfer interest a secret from him.
Consequently, what happened?
After losing his starting position at Championship team Luton Town in 2022, the attacking midfielder entered the free agency market, although Wrexham eventually made an offer. But Lee disclosed that his agent almost failed to inform him of the National League team’s interest at the time. Luckily, the former West Ham academy player jumped at the chance since his father, former football star Rob Lee, knew about Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of the Welsh team the year before.
THOUGHS OF ELLIOT LEE
Lee stated, “It was an interesting one actually,” on the Men in Blazers podcast. I was aware that my contract would expire at the conclusion of that season, so I recall sitting with my dad and he said, “Do you like what’s going on at Wrexham?” Would that appeal to you? It came as a complete surprise. He obviously knows Rob [McElhenney] and Ryan Reynolds, so I was like, “Yeah maybe.” I had always said I wanted to be a part of something unique, so I joined Luton as a project in League Two. Thus, after two or three months, while I was returning from my summer vacation, my agent called and stated
However, when my agent said, “I wasn’t going to tell you,” I said, ‘Woah, woah, woah, steady on, lad!’ He claimed to have spoken with my dad, who told him, “I’ve got to tell you,” and I agreed, thinking he was right. I replied, “I want to speak to Phil, definitely,” when my agency asked if I would like to speak with the manager. Over the summer, I had a couple excellent chats with the gaffer, and I knew right away that this was the place I wanted to come to and exactly what I was looking for. While I had other opportunities to remain in the league, I felt that this was the right opportunity for me to be a part of something unique.
