Defensor Eoghan O’Connell has sustained a calf injury, according to Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.
The centre back for Wrexham will now have to miss time while they try to get promoted from League Two.

In their most recent away game against Forest Green Rovers, O’Connell, 28, had a knock and they ended up tying 1-1 thanks to a late equaliser by striker Paul Mullin.

According to a story from The Leader, Parkinson stated, “It’s not looking good.”

“We have never lamented the injuries too much because we have a strong squad, but it is evident occasionally when quality is removed from the team,” he continued.

Wrexham’s blow to injuries
This season, O’Connell has made 21 appearances for Wrexham across all competitions, with 18 of those coming in the league.

In January 2023, the former youth international for the Republic of Ireland left Charlton Athletic to join the Welsh team, moving down two leagues.

He assisted Notts County and the Red Dragons in being promoted from the National League to the American League last season.

The Cork native progressed through the Celtic ranks and made 13 appearances for the Hoops. In order to gain experience, he also had loan stints at Oldham Athletic, Cork City, and Walsall from the Glasgow giants.

After that, he worked permanently at Charlton, Rochdale, and Bury until Parkinson’s disease called.

O’Connell has been sidelined by injuries this season, therefore Wrexham will need to make due without him while they pursue the top three teams, Mansfield Town, Stockport County, and Crewe Alexandra.

This Saturday, they will play their first game back at home against Accrington Stanley.

With twelve games remaining in this campaign, the Red Dragons are one point behind third place.
